Payroll Specialist - 9 Month Fixed Term Contract - Up to £50k

London | Hybrid Working |

An established, mission-driven organisation operating at the forefront of research and innovation is looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Specialist to join its People function during an exciting period of transformation.

This role sits at the heart of HR Operations, combining payroll expertise with broader HR administration and systems work, supporting the delivery of a streamlined end-to-end employee lifecycle and contributing to a major HR systems implementation programme.

 

The Opportunity

You'll take ownership of the monthly payroll process while acting as a key link between HR, Finance and internal stakeholders.

Alongside operational delivery, you'll play an important role in improving processes, supporting system change projects and helping shape future payroll practices.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on delivery and continuous improvement within a collaborative environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Payroll & HR Operations

· Lead coordination of the monthly payroll cycle and HR input deadlines

· Ensure HR system changes accurately flow through to payroll outputs

· Provide expert guidance on pay elements including allowances, statutory payments and contractual changes

· Investigate and resolve payroll queries alongside Finance and HR teams

· Perform data validation between HR and payroll systems

 

HR Systems & Projects

· Support implementation of a new HR/ERP platform

· Participate in system testing, workshops and process improvement initiatives

· Maintain accurate employee records in line with GDPR requirements

 

Policy & Compliance

· Provide guidance on payroll tax compliance and benefits implications

· Support annual pay review modelling and policy updates

· Keep processes aligned with employment legislation and best practice

 

About You

You'll likely bring:

· Experience working within an Payroll environment ideally within a non-profit research based organisation

· Strong understanding of payroll processes and employment legislation

· Experience of managing a high volume and demanding workload and working to tight deadlines

· Experience using integrated HR/Payroll systems ideally Agresso and/or Oracle

· Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

· Ability to manage deadlines within a high-volume operational environment

· Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

 

Desirable

· Experience within education, research, healthcare or not-for-profit environments
